In order to accomplish the Millennium Development Goals, Tanzania has made a numberof progresses, since the launch of the Primary Education Development Plan (PEDP),towards the achievement of Universal Primary Education (UPE). Despite thesecomfortable data, it is today well known that to reduce poverty and inequality a long-termsustained socioeconomic growth is required. This goal can be achieved with a goodnumber of highly qualified and capable Science and Technology (S&T) graduates andengineers. One of the leverages to pull for promoting local development is theenhancement of higher education and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) capacity indelivering appropriate, market driven and high quality programs. The next generation ofTanzanian professionals will therefore have the tools to foster innovation within the socialand economic development.An assessment of the current curricula situation is therefore defined in this studypromoted by UNIDO. The purpose is to analyze strengths of the country’s curriculum,identify its weaknesses and investigate opportunities for improvements in the context ofpromotion of innovation 1.This evaluation focuses on the curriculum of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM)which is by far the largest scientific university in the country. The outcome of the researchwill support the College of Engineering and Technology CoET to promote Technologyand Innovation as instruments at the service of the Country strategic development. Aspecial effort is put in producing a questionnaire as general as possible, in order toextend the analysis to other universities in the country.
