摘要

Higher education institutions should provide flexible degree programs able to meet learners' needs and promote not only high quality academic standards but also similar working environments as pretraining for the future employees. We have attempted to render a brief description of the overall situation of the educational system in Romania and find some relevant evidence to account for the particular state of English teaching in colleges and universities. The problems stem from the poor understanding of the complexity and dimension of the phenomenon as well as from the teachers' lack of experience. The aim of our investigation is to offer some possible solutions to the problems that English for Science and Technology teachers in Romania have to deal with, due to the inherent shortcomings of a continuously changing educational system and to their own lack of experience in teaching EST. The first part of the paper is devoted to presenting the English teaching process in Romania as an integrated component of the educational context. The second part introduces data drawn from effectively working with the students who attend the courses of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Suceava and identifies its drawbacks. We conclude by offering a set of measures that could enhance our efforts to provide realistic employment chances and better academic inheritance to our students.
