摘要

A brief survey of basic physical phenomena involved in colour and visual effects (gloss, matte, iridescence, opal...) of structured materials is proposed, in relation with the material morphology: interference, diffraction, scattering, surface plasmon excitation. Examples are taken in the world of life (butterflies...) and among synthetic materials. Theoretical tools able to model the visual effects are also presented.
