Four chemical immobilising agents were tested with a two-part wind energy grade epoxy resin system. Differential scanning calorimetery was used to characterise the agents and compare their onset point and peak exotherm. Fixotropic additives were trialled to allow accurate application of the solutions to dry fabric and prevent wicking and washing. An opaque VARTM tool was used to compare the performance of each immobiliser in controlling the resin flow path. Results showed the potential for the use of cheap chemical immobilisers to accurately control the resin flow during infusion of wind turbine blades.
