The principal goal of research on seizure prediction is to determine when a seizureis going to occur. The narrower the latency of the prediction, and the lowerthe number of false detections, the greater the value of the prediction softwareto permit seizure prevention, or protection against injury. In addition to thisimportant clinical objective, it is worthwhile to consider whether the results ofseizure prediction research might also provide new insights into the glial neuronalmechanisms responsible for ictal initiation.
