Over the last number of years there have been drastic improvements in the specification and construction of buildings. In particular there have been big improvements in the area of air tightness. Today our homes have far less air leaks than before, but problems still exist. Infrared thermography is a powerful tool in the diagnostics of air leaks in buildings, it allows users to visualise the locations of such leaks. In addition to air leakage thermography can be used to detect other problems in completed buildings. This paper will look at some of the building problems that can be detected with thermography. It will also look at some other methods that can be used to assess problems within a construction.
