摘要

Most highway bridges in the United States are inspected at least once every two years to ensure public safety. As part of these bridge inspections, it is a necessary practice to identify serious deficiencies affecting public safety so that owners can take appropriate action in a timely fashion. New York State is one of the states that has a systematic procedure in place, known as the NYSDOT "Flagging Procedure" and sets forth a uniform method of timely notification to responsible parties of serious bridge deficiencies that require fast attention as well as issues which, if left unattended for an extended period, could become a serious problem in the future. This paper briefly describes these procedures.
