An extensive experimental investigation was performed to understand the uniaxial compressive behavior of unnotched composite laminates using the T300/924C and T800/924C composite systems. The unnotched unidirectional ([0_4]_(2s) for the T300/924C and T800/924C material) and multidirectional (T300/924C [45/-45/0/90]_(3s) and T800/924C [45/0/-45/90]_(3s)) laminates were used for the mechanical tests. From the microstructure investigation, major factors (fibre distributions, voids, resin rich regions and fibre waviness) which influence compressive strengths were identified. Compressive failure behavior of unidirectional and multidirectional specimens was characterised through the SEM analysis and post failure investigations. Finally failure strength predictions were compared and explained for unidirectional and multidirectional composites with various commonly used models.
