While the unambiguous discovery of the sources of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays remains an elusive goal, there has been much progress in our understanding of these particles during the past decade. Data from a new generation of large cosmic-ray experiments has allowed us to study the arrival directions, composition, and energy spectrum of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays with unprecedented statistics. I will review recent developments in these areas and summarize how our understanding of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays has developed over the last decade.
