Bending Response of Transversely Flexible Sandwich Plate to Thermo-Mechanical Loading and with Functionally Graded Skins

In this paper bending response of the sandwich panel with functionally graded (FG) skins under thermal and/or mechanical loading is studied. Higher order theory that considers the sandwich skins as the classical plate and the core as a three elastic body has been exploited. In addition, by using Fourier conduction equation and obtaining temperature distribution, thermo elastic behavior of such structure has been investigated. The sandwich panel is supported by simply supported boundary conditions and for analytical solution, proper Fourier series have been suggested for variables. These series satisfy the boundary conditions automatically. An FEM analysis using of Ansys10 has been used for substantiating the analytical results. Comparison between the results of analytical and numerical solutions is indicative of being robust of analytical theory for prediction of in-plane and out-of-plane stresses.
