A crucial step of the process of fuzzy systems modeling is the design of the membership functions related to the implemented fuzzy sets. Usually, this design is based on subjective decision of a domain specialist. In this paper, we describe a new method for the automatic design of membership functions, the Fuzzy-Omega method, which is based on statistical analysis of training sets of instance data. The experiments show that the use of Fuzzy-Omega leads to consistent results. Thus, the proposed method represents a new way to reach more accurate fuzzy systems, which can produce more realistic results.
