摘要

Cadmium (Cd)-induced oxidative stress appears to play a major role in mediating various organ dysfunctions. Quercetin is a potent oxygen free radicals scavenger and a metal chelator. The present study was designed to investigate the potential protective effect of quercetin against cadmium (Cd)-induced hypertension and oxidative stress in mice. Male ICR mice were exposed to CdCl_2 (100 mg/1) via drinking water alone or together with intragastrically administered with quercetin (50 or 100 mg/ kg) in every other day for 8 weeks. Results showed that Cd induced oxidative stress, elevated blood pressure and blunted vascular responsiveness, whereas quercetin dose-dependently alleviated these deleterious effects of Cd. Data in this study provide the first evidence for a protective effect of quercetin on a mouse model of Cd-induced hypertension.
