Effects of Ca(NO_3)_2 stress on the root volume, root-shoot ratio and chlorophyll contents of cucumber seedlings were investigated. Two cucumber cultivars (Chun 4 and Jinyou 1) were used by sand culture. The results were as follows: root volume, root-shoot ratio, chlorophyll a (Chl a) contents, chlorophyll b (Chl b) contents and total chlorophyll (Chl t) contents of two cucumber cultivars all decreased when Ca(NO_3)_2 stress increased, which suggested that growth of cucumber seedlings were inhibited under Ca(NO_3)_2 stress.
