Study on the ultra-precision magnetic abrasive finishing process using alternating magnetic field: Investigation of finishing mechanism and the precision finishing of aluminum alloy plate
In recent years, with the development of high-tech industries such as aerospace, die polishing, semiconductors and medical devices, smoother surfaces have been needed. The grinding tool of the magnetic abrasive finishing (MAF) process is formed of micron-sized particles, resulting in a smaller finishing force on a single abrasive particle, and thus it is considered that the process can obtain a nano-scale surface. However, since the conventional plane MAF process uses a static magnetic field, fine particles agglomerate and the abrasive cannot be circulated and renewed during processing, resulting in a decrease in surface quality and finishing efficiency. In order to overcome these problems, this paper proposes the magnetic abrasive finishing process using an alternating magnetic field.
