The use of adhesively-bonded composite materials has become an attractive option in repairing and strengthening existing structures. Acceptance of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) materials for strengthening concrete structures has resulted in the possibility to also strengthen steel structures. Damaged steel girders can be repaired by epoxy bonding CFRP laminates to the damaged areas of the member. This paper presents the results of experimental study on the retrofitting of damaged steel beams with CFRP sheets. A total of four W4× 13 A992 steel beams with a total length of 1982 mm are tested to study the effect of CFRP-strengthening on the flexural behavior of strengthened steel beams using different strengthening techniques. The main investigation parameter of this study is the retrofitting method used to improve the CFRP-steel strengthening. The effectiveness of the transverse CFRP anchor in strengthening damaged steel beams is observed.
