@@ Superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) can absorb and retain high amount of aqueous solutions. SAPs are classified as hydrogels, which are networks of crosslinked hydrophilic polymer chains. Many of these gels are responsive to environmental stimuli such as pH, temperature, and ionic strength. Owning to these characteristics, SAPs have advantages for the applications in tissue engineering, artificial muscles, drug delivery separation devices, and functional optically transparent materials. It is known that hydrogel properties such as the mechanical, thermal, and water absorbing responsiveness can be adjusted by the polymer morphology1. In addition, because of its water absorbency, SAPs may possibly be used as desiccants for an energy saving system.
