Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) are characterized by the cystic dilation of pancreatic ducts lined with mucin-producing atypical epithelium showing papillary growth. The recognition of IPMNs of the pancreas is increasing. However, there are no reliable methods to evaluate the malignant potential of an IPMN, which leads to difficulty in clinical management. Novel biomarkers are needed to preoperatively evaluate the malignant potential of an IPMN, and for this purpose, many molecular analyses have been performed.
