摘要

The concept of urban regeneration emerged from the need to revive urban areas that record an advanced degree of degradation on one of the three pillars: physical, social or (and) economic (Ministry of Development, Public Works and Housing, 2007). Besides the efficient use of the space that has already been built, the positive aspects of regeneration projects may be also related to limiting urban sprawl in the rur-urban fringe area. This study aims to analyse the major urban regeneration projects in Craiova city and their effectiveness on the environment. Urban regeneration projects aim to improve the environmental disfunctions. Among the most important projects carried out or in progress we can mention. Tineretului Park, the functional reconversion of Electroputere Park industrial area and the regeneration of Craiovita-Noua neighbourhood.
