Study of the Genetic Relationship between Iranian and Some Mediterranean Olive Cultivars Using SSR Markers

Thirteen SSR markers were used for the study of 100 olive genotypes including 92 Iranian olive accessions belong to north and south of the country as well as 8 Mediterranean olive cultivars obtained from the World Olive Germplasm Bank "Alameda del Obispo" of Cordoba (Spain). A total of 180 alleles were observed in 3 studied populations with average of 4.38 and 3.00 in the accessions collected from the north and south of Iran, while the mean number of alleles was 6.46 in Mediterranean olive cultivars. Heterozygosity value was high in all 3 localities ranging from 0.60 to 0.77 while PIC values ranged from 0.45 to 0.70. Although the genotypes studied showed high genetic intra-population variability, they were grouped in three distinct clusters separated from each other. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) revealed that 20.65% of genetic variation was attributed to differences within population while 79.35% came from variation between populations (significance p<0.05).
