摘要

Numerous observations of the arctic tundra over time, using both field and remotely sensed methodologies, have indicated that the aboveground component of tundra vegetation has been increasing since at least the middle of the twentieth century. At the circumpolar scale, the greening of the northern high latitudes and the arctic tundra specifically has been observed with remotely sensed data for some time [e.g. Myneni et al. 1997], and more recent studies have noted the continuation of this trend [Bunn et al. 2007, Bhatt et al. 2010]. Bhatt et al. [2010] examined the link between sea-ice decline and tundra vegetation increases. They found a nearly ubiquitous greening of the near-coastal tundra, in both the maximum NDVI and the seasonally-integrated NDVI, with some decline in the Bering and West Chukchi regions. Interestingly, the tundra vegetation of North America appears to be greening to a greater extent than that of Eurasia [Bhatt et al. 2010].
