Steam reforming of toluene is one of the most promising methods for biomass-tar removal. The reaction formula is shown below. C7H8 + 7H2O -> 7CO + 11H2 ?△H°_(298) = 869.8 kJ mol~(-1) CO + H2O -> CO2 + H2 ?△H°_(298) = -41.2 kJ mol~(-1) Steam reforming reaction proceeds following by water gas shift reaction (WGS). Hydrogen, which is produced by this reaction, is an important chemical feedstock for petroleum refinery, ammonia or methanol synthesis. In addition, hydrogen has attracted increasing attention as a clean energy resource and is used for operating polymer electrolyte fuel cell.
