New Donor-Acceptor Organic Semiconductors for Efficient Polymer Solar Cells

The development of new organic semiconductors is central to advances in developing more efficient organic photovoltaics. Organic semiconductors with donor-acceptor (D-A) architecture are particularly attractive since their optical, electrochemical, and charge transport properties as well as the solid state morphology of the materials can be tuned. Utilizing the donor-acceptor strategy for organic semiconductors, we have designed and synthesized new p-type polymer semiconductors and n-type non-fullerene small-molecule semiconductors, and used them in the fabrication of efficient bulk heterojunction solar cells.
