A planar ultra-wideband phased array antenna with wide-scanning angle and low electromagnetic scattering characteristics is proposed. The infinite array delivers a 4: 1 bandwidth from 4 to 16GHz for VSWR<;2.6 when scanning up to ± 60°. Meanwhile, a tapered slot array (TSA) as well as a PEC plate with the same aperture size is used as a reference antenna to quantitatively evaluate the low scattering performance of the proposed array. Simulated results show that the proposed array has a lower scattering in 4-18GHz as compared to the reference ones. Two prototypes for a 6×6 proposed array and a 4×8 reference array were fabricated and measured, respectively. Reasonable agreements between the measurement and simulation results are obtained.
