In the present work, Metal inert gas welding of mild steel with metal cored arc welding wires using different shielding gas compositions was performed. The composition of filler wire and shielding gas Metal Inert Gas welding of mild steel determines the inclusion characteristics, microstructure and mechanical properties. Altering the composition of the metal powders in the core, metal cored wires are designed to meet a huge variety of applications. Four different compositions of shielding gas are used with metal cored wire E70C-3X and three with E70C-6X. Thus, acceptable weld metal properties in mild steel using Metal Inert Gas welding process could be achieved with the proper combination of filler wire and shielding gas composition.
