摘要

Tribology test vessel made of austenitic stainless steel grade AISI - 316L was manufactured to evaluate the friction and wear behavior of nuclear grade materials in sodium. Tribology Test Vessel (TTV) is a critical component in the test facility. It consists of cylindrical shell, tori-spherical dished end, ring & top flanges, inlet & outlet nozzles, tribometer and level probes etc. Manufacturing of test vessel was a challenging task due to the larger size, more weld length, stringent dimensional and geometrical tolerances. The flanges, nozzles, and level probe components were machined to close dimensional tolerances. The test vessel was manufactured and inspected as per ASME Section VIH Division -1. Meticulous process planning (PP), quality assurance planning (QAP), and fabrication procedure were prepared and followed to manufacture the test vessel meeting the code requirements. This paper highlights the fabrication methodology adopted and challenges encountered during fabrication and inspection of tribology test vessel.
