The aim of this research was to study the metal elements in marine bivalve mollusk from coastal marine waters of the Gulf of Thailand focusing on metals in Paphia undulate shell for biomarkers. Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometer was used to determine the composition of mineral and levels of the metals gold (Au), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), copper (Cu), iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) but cannot detect the chromium (Cr) element. The results show that the highest accumulated metals are Fe, Mn, Zn, Cr, Au and Pb, respectively. The shell samples were prepared in powder form and annealed at specific temperatures over the range of 200 °C - 300 °C. The effects of heat treatment on the Paphia undulate shell samples were examined using ESR spectroscopy. The result show that, the structures of Paphia undulate shell and Mn~(2+) paramagnetic ions present in the sample at different annealing temperatures have changes of those ions upon heating.
