The present paper presents different theoretical perspectives on the conceptualization of coping and describes his functions as well as the factors determining its efficacy during adolescence.The research reported here has been based on a sample of 259 adolescents. Its objectives were to determine the influence of the family and school contexts on the perception of the severity of stress factors in adolescents and the relationships between personal characteristics such as self esteems and self-efficacy, and the preference for certain coping strategies. Maine results will be presented and implications for the educational process will be discussed.
