Over the last decade, we have coordinated two researches using the Bogardus scale in the Banat region, on different regional representative samples: in 2001 on 1057 subjects and in 2010 on 488 subjects. In these studies we have also compared our outcomes with the similar ones provided at the national level. I have measured the social distance through indicator known as "the quality of social contacts index" (ICCS). On the one hand, we have described the historical dynamic of the ICCS indicator, evidencing a stabilization on a higher level, more permissive, of the relational openness toward the "ethnical otherness", comparative as compared to one decade before, with radical differences from the scores obtained on the national representative samples. On the other hand, a strong rejection of marginal ethnic identities (like "Gypsies") has been recorded, more consistent than in the 2000's, relatively similar with the intensity of rejection on the national level. In that register, a negative dynamic is observed, this attests to the way in which an ethnical category produces reserved assessment, dissonant with the general pattern of the region, but associated with another symbolic rejection of an ethnical category ("Arabs").
