This paper aims to present the important part played by identity when talking about drug abusers: it is first mentioned the difference between "the use" of drug and "the abuse" of drug, and how is taken the path from to abusing of the substance.There are several theories describing the factors that influence a person to use drugs and the portrait of the consummer: Kaplan's Self-Derogation Theory, Hawkins and Catalano's Social Development Theory, Flay's Theory of Triadic Influence.Regarding psychotherapy, there are described the most effective types of therapy and their outcomes.
