Why look at UASB bioreactors especially as applied to secondary sludge? Simply put, as a mill you invested in the organics that the bacteria in the secondary treatment are converting into biomass that typically ends up in a landfill. We are all well aware of in the costs associated with treatment and disposal, but there is a missing expense component, that is seldom discussed. That expense component is the cost associated with the initial investment of the organics to begin with, namely the initial expense of bone dry wood. If one takes this expense into consideration, then one has even a more expensive "treatment system".
