摘要

The ubiquity of big data, Internet of Things (IoT), and smart devices is radically changing society, our personal lives are being tracked, digitally motivated through gamification, where information has become an addiction at all income levels, genders, and generations. This paper presents an approach where these forces are embraced and take advantage of this phenomenon to improve safety and productivity. Long-held conventions for Fleet Management Systems are abandoned, such as permanently mounted hardware, connecting through cables and “black boxes”, focusing tracking on assets not people, wireless requirements, minimal to no feedback to the operator, high costs, etc. The benefits of form digitization are also presented, eliminating the copious volumes of paper that we create to complete safety, training, preoperational checklist forms, that then must be entered into computer systems for compliance, and simply enter the data directly into a digital device. An example of how collecting safety and location data digitally also unlocks the information contained in safety forms and pre-operational checklists allowing the data to be used immediately and communicated effectively to the succeeding shift. Managing then gaining value from this new, greatly expanded mountain of largely unstructured data, requires the use of modern tools and approaches, such as gamification and Big Data, and example of which is provided, showing how JSON objects can be self-contained documents detailing ever more complex and complete information. Tablets can now provide a better user experience as well as new sensors when compared to traditional fleet management systems, at a fraction of the cost, employing the extremely aesthetic and interactive visuals derived from the video game industry, as is shown in a simple example of reducing fuelling delays. This presentation will show real case studies of the real application of these technologies in small and medium surface mines as well as large underground mines, exposing the monumental improvements in operator feedback, tracking, and performance management, at a much lower cost per unit. As conclusion, all these new technologies can be used adapted to mining.
