Seasonal impact on arsenic and trace elements dispersal in agricultural soil of Gangetic Delta region of India

Enumeration of the amount of arsenic and other selected trace metals (Fe, Cu,Zn, Pb and Cd) in soil samples of Chakdaha Block in Nadia district of West Bengal during the cultivation of two different rice varieties, Boro and Amon grown in different season's viz. winter-spring and monsoon, with a correlation of metal dispersion and temporal variation. Soil samples from control, and other experimental fields were processed following digestion-dilution by treating with strong acids and analysed to detect trace elements by ICP-MS. Statistical indices of pollution are analysed as Contamination Factor (CF), Pollution Load Index (PLI), Geo-accumulation Index (I_(geo)) and Enrichment Factor (EF) comparing with background concentration. ANOVA shows sampling variation in seasonal respect for same metals. The positive relation between temporal variation and increment of metal dispersion is quite clear. Surrounding anthropogenic contamination and status of contaminated irrigation water with respective parameters plays an important role here.
