In order to meet the needs of modern society for the cultivation of talents, college English education pays more attention to the cultivation of students' comprehensive application ability of language. The goal of college English teaching is to develop students' ability to use English language comprehensively. At present, although the reform of college English teaching has achieved certain results, there are still many problems and shortcomings. In order to promote the balanced development of students' language ability and improve the students' ability to use language comprehensively, this paper analyzes the present situation of college English teaching and puts forward some measures and methods of teaching reform. English is a communicative language. From a macro point of view, the main purpose of all the language is the exchange of information. As an international language, English plays an extremely important role in information transmission and emotional communication. With the deepening of China's reform and opening to the outside world, the use of English in our real life is more and more extensive. Learning English well is not only a simply skill need, but a means of survival. College English education is an important part of higher education and it is also a compulsory basic course for college students. College English teaching is a teaching system which includes English language knowledge and application skills, learning strategies and cross-cultural communication. At the same time, it is also guided by English teaching theory and uses a variety of teaching mode and methods [1]. The goal of college English teaching is to cultivate students' comprehensive English application ability, so that they can communicate effectively both in oral and written at work and social interaction in English in the future. Furthermore, it enhances students' independent learning ability and improves comprehensive cultural quality to adapt to Chinese economic development and international exchange needs. For students, English learning is not only to finish their studies, but to improve their comprehensive cultural qualities and language learning and application ability. College English teaching is the best way for students to temper this ability. Through college English learning, students should establish the overall language quality, such as language skills, language knowledge, emotional attitudes, learning strategies and cultural awareness [2].
