The effect of authentic leadership on leader creativity: the moderating role of idea network diversity

Synthesizing theories of leadership, social network, and creativity, this research built and tested a theoretical model linking authentic leadership with leader creativity and the contingent effect of leader's idea network diversity. Using survey data from 400 executives of start-up companies in China, we found that, as anticipated, authentic leadership positively affected leader creativity. Idea network diversity moderated the link between authentic leadership and leader creativity: leader creativity was higher in response to high authentic leadership when network diversity was high. These results yielded important implications regarding how to improve managers' creative performance at work.
