New evidence of magmatic-hydrothermal activity of porphyry-epithermal system in the reararc of Izu-Bonin-Mariana

The Izu Bonin Mariana (IBM) arc developed in response to the spontaneous subduction, part of hemisphere-scale foundering of the old and dense Pacific Plate under the Philippines plate over the past 52 Ma (Tamura et al., 2015). The evolution was accompanied by a low-K calc-alkaline magmatism in the arc front, a high-K magmatism in the rear arc between 17 and 3 Ma, and a new episode of low-K magmatism in the arc front in the past 3 Ma. The International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) expedition 350 drilled the IBM rear arc (Fig. 1) due its relevance for the understanding of intra oceanic arc evolutionary processes. Site U1437 is located in a restrict volcano-bounded basin between the Enpo and Manji seamount chains, comprising seven lithostratigraphic units of mafic and evolved fine and coarse volcaniclastic rocks (13 - 0 Ma) and a rhyolite-rhyodacite intrusive igneous unit (ca. 13 Ma).
