摘要

This discussion of physical diagnosis is aimed at large animal internists who may have been trained chiefly with horses, and only see the occasional ruminant patient. It is assumed that ruminant experts already possess this level of knowledge. Duringthis same ACVTM Forum a presentation dedicated to examination of the ruminant nervous system will be given, so most discussion of the nervous system has been omitted here. In this paper I review the efficient technique I prefer for a basic ruminant physical examination (PE), moving around the animal from left to right and looking at the head last, rather than an approach that examines system by system. Fertility exam is beyond the scope of the basic PE and will not be discussed here.
