Fe_(80)Co_(20), Fe_(80)Pt_(20) and Fe_(80)Co_(20)/ Fe_(80)Pt_(20) bilayer thin films were prepared on glass substrates by the magnetron sputtering method. The magnetic properties of these films were monitored with a SQUID magnetometer using both an in-plane and an out-of-plane magnetic field. Several-nanometer-thick Fe_(80)Co_(20) and Fe_(80)Pt_(20) films show different in-plane and out-of-plane saturation magnetizations (M_s) with very small coercive force (H_c). Due to the lattice misfit between two layers of Fe_(80)Co_(20)/Fe_(80)Pt_(20) or presence of stress from the glass substrates during cooling, an intrinsic stress causes perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and magnetization in these thin films under magnetic field. Analysis indicates that Fe_(80)Co_(20) and Fe_(80)Pt_(20) ultra-thin films are great potential in the application of the high density magnetic recording media.
