Organic molecules like complexants do not pass the ISM, no cyanide build up. The theoretical consumption of 1.49 g/Ah of NaOH at the anode is partially compensated by the transfer and decreases to 0.2-0.4 g/Ah. Sulfate replenishment is partially compensated by the transfer of anions. Carbonates can migrate through the ISM into the anolyte (osmotic pressure). Depending on the concentrations of carbonate and sulfate in the anolyte, continuous purification is the consequence.
