The term "firm cluster" may be defined as a group of organizations located in close geographic proximity or as a geographic concentration of interconnected businesses in a particular region (Porter, 1990). Although research in the area of the geography of economic activities dates back to the work of Marshall (1920), the concept of clusters has attracted much attention more recently (Gordon and McCann, 2000).
