SiC powders with carbon and boron as sintering additives were firstly mixed homogeneously using gel casting process and then sintered through spark plasma sintering method at temperatures in the range of 1600-2000 °C. Results showed that with the increase of the sintering temperature, the density as well as the flexural strength increased. The relative density and flexural strength reached to 99.4% and 449±56 MPa for samples sintered at 2000 °C, respectively. Short carbon fibers, with the volume fraction of 30%, were added to increase the fracture toughness of the material. Fiber pull-out phenomenon was observed in the obtained composites, of which the flexural strength and the fracture toughness are 117+2 MPa and 4.50+1.44 MPa-m, respectively.
