One of the main objectives of the mathematical modeling of the shear plastic strain is estimation of the shear zone size. The number of point defects generated during the movement of the dislocation loop can be estimated by the length of a screw dislocations free path. The paper addresses the issue of refinement of numerical value of the shear zone diameter based on the model of dislocation interactions proposed by the authors. It is assumed that the shear zone is limited by the long strong dislocation barriers that arise as a result of the reaction between the slip dislocation loop segments and dislocations of non-coplanar slip systems. A formula for estimating the shear zone diameter depending on the length of a free path of the screw and edgy dislocations is proposed. Based on the modified model of dislocation contact interactions the estimation of the probability parameter of strong connection by the screw orientation dislocation segments is performed and the length of a free path of the screw component of a loop is defined.
