C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute phase protein and serves as a biomarker in both human and veterinary medicine to diagnose and follow the treatment of inflammatory disease. CRP has a useful role in the diagnosis and treatment of vertebral osteomyelitis in humans and potentially the equivalent veterinary disease called diskospondylitis. This talk will describe the role of CRP as an acute phase protein (APP), describe its use as a biomarker in multiple veterinary diseases and in human vertebral osteomyelitis. Lastly, we will discuss diskospondylitis and CRFs potential role as a biomarker for this disease.
