Objective: The objective of this study was to clarify the learning effect of a tooth brushing practice (TBP) module resembling the oral environment developed to easily practice brushing of patients' teeth. Methods: The subjects were healthy male students of non-medical fields. The TBP module was coated with artificial plaque. The subjects brushed the module using a tooth brush until they felt that brushing was completed, and the time required for brushing and the degree of residual plaque were evaluated. They repeated this procedure 4 times with about 2-week intervals. The subjects practiced brushing between the 2nd and 3rd experiments (first self-learning) and between the 3rd and 4th experiments (2nd self-learning). Results: After self-learning, the brushing time shortened and residual plaque decreased. Discussion: It was suggested that self-learning using the TBP module resembling the oral cavity environment promotes learning of the brushing technique.
