This paper presents recent results sponsored by USDOE’s CASL and IRP programs for the modeling andsimulation of fuel responses in design basis accidents inLight Water Reactors (LWRs): specifically, theapplication of Bison code to the modeling of RIAsincluding, a) Bison code validation on PCMI-inducedfailures in simulated RIA tests, b) PWR fuel responses incontrol Rod Ejection Accident (REA), and c) Modelingperformance of coated clad under RIA conditions. TheRIA modeling and simulation demonstrates the versatilityof Bison code for the evaluation of fuel responses in thefast-transient domain.
