The effect of Le on the primary acoustic instability of downward propagating flame is experimentally investigated through controlling flame front structure by external laser irradiation. The convex curvature was generated immediately after laser exposure, and then the concave structure of flame front by buoyancy induced flow follows. In primary acoustic instability region, the deformations of the flame front structure by laser irradiation gives significantly difference depending on the timing of laser irradiation start, and such difference influences on acoustic pressure fluctuation. When the laser irradiation starts before the primary acoustic instability is fully saturated in Le<1, the growth rate of acoustic pressure is increased with increasing laser power during convex flame front is formed. For Le>1, the growth of acoustic pressure is very small under the presence of the convex structure. When the laser irradiation starts after primary acoustic instability is fully developed, a significant change of acoustic pressure is not observed. The experimental results show that the Lewis number affects the onset of primary acoustic instability.
