We have developed a virtual reality (VR) system to assess the cognitive function. The subjects are asked to execute shopping tasks in the 'virtual mall' by operating a touch screen. In this paper, we introduce our VR system: the Virtual Shopping Test (VST), and report the findings of our study for clinical application. We administered VST and neuropsychological assessment for healthy people and brain-damaged patients. The results showed age-related decline of VST scores, and VST scores correlated with some scores of neuropsychological assessment. This finding suggests the usefulness of our VR system to assess the cognitive function of old people and patients.
