Current work discusses the importance of designing meaningful and effective assignments as part of internal assessment. Incorporation of a written assignment emphasizing applications of core sustainability principles such as “life cycle assessment” and “industrial ecology”, has created a wider interest amongst chemical engineering students towards issues related to sustainable development. The effectiveness of these assignments towards overall course delivery measured through unit evaluations and surveys. It is shown that the adopted methods have contributed significantly to the degree of satisfaction amongst students as compared to previous offerings of Sustainable Processing I unit for the third year Chemical Engineering students.
