The present study aims at clarifying the effects of the trees along the interfaces between main channel and floodplains on the flow characteristics in the whole domain. Figure 1 shows the compound meandering channel in this study. The main channel is 0.70 m wide and its wavelength is 3.64 m with the amplitude is 0.87 m. The floodplains are 4.0 cm high and roughened by artificial turf. Tree models are made of rigid bamboo cylinder of 3 mm diameter. Measurements have been made concerning water depth, three velocity components and oil streaks. The effects of three different locations of tree belt are discussed: (i) no tree along the floodplain edges (Case 1), (ii) trees along the half of the floodplain edges (case2), and (iii) trees along all the floodplain edges (Case 3).
