With the development of cluster well drilling, the inter-well distance is becoming smaller and smaller. There is a high possibility to have a collision accident between drill bit and adjacent well due to certain deviation from the designed well trajectory in the drilling process, posing a potential threat to oil and gas wells. Therefore, the research on the way of avoiding well collision in cluster well drilling has significant meaning for the development of the drilling industry. This paper studies anti-collision technologies while drilling cluster wells and presents an active magnetization electromagnetic detection device which is based on the RMRS developed before and works by utilizing the magnetic field of the electromagnets in the probe tube. In this paper, the formulae for calculation of the relative distance and position of target well are deduced and the validity and accuracy of the active magnetization mode is confirmed, providing theoretical support for the development of this detection device. The device provides a completely new reliable service for collision avoidance in cluster wells and becomes practically significant in breaking the technical monopoly of foreign countries.
