摘要

It is an honor to present the 2016 Howard Dunne Memorial Lecture and I thank Dr. George Charbonneau and the programming committee for the invitation. The theme of this meeting is "collaboration," and my presentation aims to highlight various aspects of our research program that has evolved at the University of Saskatchewan in response to the discovery of an emerging pathogen "Brachyspira hampsonii" My paper begins with a review of the literature pertaining to "B. hampsonii" then highlights various aspects of our multidisciplinary collaborative research program aimed at finding solutions to combat dysentery. Thirdly, I have provided a commentary on the essential elements of collaboration based on my experience working in diverse research groups during the last two decades. These concepts are applicable to anyone working with organizations or groups of individuals with varying backgrounds. Finally, I will close with a tribute to Dr. Dunne and other pioneers in our profession.
